Whilst the summer so far has begun with a rather stalling start to training thanks to an endless flu bug, I’m back to full swing and the training is in motion for my upcoming summer of stage racing adventure!
On my list this year to tackle is the newly announced Carpathian MTB Epic, held within the Carpathian Mountain region in Romania.
Competition is one element to a mountain bike stage race, but high on my satisfaction scale is the sense of discovery. With wanderlust calling, I can’t wait to try out the trails, meet the locals and get a sense of what Romania riding is all about.
Deemed rugged, and wild, the race takes place over 4 days from the 21st to the 24th of September and promises to test skills and push limits to the edge. Just my kind of race!
Here’s the race video to see what’s in store.
Set within the Meridional Carpathian Mountains, including the Bucegi and Piatra Craiului Natural Parks, it’s a feast for flora and fauna, showcasing icy glacial-fed lakes, limestone ridges and perhaps even bears and lynxs to add to my wildlife tick list.
I’m racing solo, but if you’re looking for a undiscovered area of the world to ride and fancy joining me for an adventure, take a look.
I’ve since raced the event and you can find the article on my Adventure Stories page.
