Cape to Cape MTB: Stage Racing Western Australia

As the travel bug began to bite, at 18, I decided the best place to start was the entirely opposite end of the earth: Australia. Heading over to the East Coast, my friend and I took on the naive task of travelling from Sydney to Brisbane in less than 3 weeks – by Greyhound bus no less. Whilst that maiden mission consisted mostly of beer, beaches and BBQs, nowadays the priorities lead me to the trail.

Stage 2 - Blasting Through Boranup

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Australia’s premier mountain bike stage race, Cape to Cape MTB. Held over four days, their decade celebrations will take on an entirely new format. Rather than a point-to-point race course, 2017 will showcase the best of trails from it’s entire 10 year history, adding this time a never ridden before section to add stoke to the fire – Compartment 10.

I certainly love to race, but stage racing around the world represents so much more to me; it’s the opportunity to meet friendly faces and quite often, eat and drink back the calories by way of local chow! Luckily, Cape to Cape starts and finishes at some of the region’s best wineries and breweries, so it’s sure to be more than a heads down race and the perfect way to end the stage race season.

Whatsmore, Cape to Cape offers equal prize money for both male and female category, so it got my vote right away. Find out more about the race here.
